This is just sickening news. Absolutely sickening and devastating.
The great granddaughter of 91-year-old Nelson Mandela, Zenani Mandela, was killed on the opening day of the World Cup in South Africa according to the New York Times. Zenani Mandela, 13-years-old, was returning home from one of the opening ceremony concerts, which included performances from Alicia Keys and Shakira, and was killed in a one-car accident.
The driver of the other vehicle was believed to be a drunk driver. Zenani Mandela had just turned 13 on Wednesday.
The World Cup is being hosted in South Africa for the first time in the country’s history where the soccer stadium is named after Nelson Mandela. Mexico is set to play South Africa today.
